SEBASTIAN

This venerable, absolutely huge range of hair-care products has been lining salon shelves for over 30 years. Sebastian continues to offer an imposing selection of items that distinguish it from many other salon lines that don't have the scope or formulary variety it does. It is owned and distributed by the Wella Corporation professional division, and Procter & Gamble purchased a majority stake in Wella in late 2003. I hope that P&G doesn't overhaul this line and spin off more Pantene clones (which is what they have done and continue to do with the physique, Clairol, Aussie, and Infusium 23 lines they own) because there are some wonderful Sebastian products that shouldn't be altered.

If the prices don't bother you, this line can easily be one-stop shopping for all your hair-care needs. The styling products really excel, with numerous options for every hair type, texture, and possible style. The Laminates line remains a top choice for those with thick, coarse, or frizzy hair and the Shaper line has some much-improved options for cleansing, conditioning, and styling. The lack of blatant repetition between formulas is refreshing, and really makes this line a winner for distinctive choices, though the label descriptions are not always accurate in terms of hold factor and recommended hair type.
